Current mobile computer features high speed processor and at the same time emits heat. Japanese engineers from Murata Manufacturing demonstrated a thermoelectric device capable of turning heat into electricity. When two ceramic semiconductors with different temperatures are connected, an electrical current is produced, creating power, which means that cell phones, laptops, mp3 players and other portable devices can partially recharge themselves.

The thermoelectric device is a long way from being commercialized, according to a Murata engineer at the company’s booth, estimating it could take 10 years or more for this capability to appear on the market.
